Meet the Team: Hugh Donohoe

27 June 2024

Meet Hugh, one of our dedicated team members. As a Project Supervisor, Hugh's responsibilities span a wide range of functions, primarily focusing on prescribed Home Modifications under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

He works closely with both internal and external therapists to ensure modifications meet Australian standards, manage quotes and contractors, and ensure client satisfaction upon completion.

What does your role involve?

My role as Project Supervisor involves a broad range of functions that primarily covers prescribed Home Modifications under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, that are referred to Indigo by either Indigo therapists or from external agency therapists.

A typical home modification will include:

  • Ensure requests meet the Australian standards and working therapists to achieve this

  • Process and defining the scope of works for the modification/s

  • Communicating and managing quotes for the works with approved contractors

  • Liaising with contractors to ensure works are carried in a timely manner and to professional and Australian standards.

  • Communicating back to therapists when works have been completed

  • Ensuring client satisfaction with the completion of works.

What do you like most about your role and working at Indigo?

Enjoyment from following jobs through from start to finish and working alongside a dedicated team of Indigo staff and external contractors.

Tell us about the most interesting project you have worked on during your career.

Since being in Australia (for over 20 years, following leaving my home country of Scotland), I have spent time as a contractor in many locations across Western Australia. My favorite and most interesting project was based in the Kimberley region of Emma Gorge and working on El Questro Station to restore and re-build some fire damaged buildings. The region's landscape and wildlife were breathtaking, and it was such a pleasure and privilege to stay and work each day in that location.

Describe a memorable moment arising from your role.

A difficult request came through for a lady that had rapidly deteriorating vision. The project involved modifying a staircase to enable the lady to regain access to the upper floor (bedroom and bathroom) of her home of 45 years, independently.

New contractor was required for this modification to carry out specific works and the job required specific skills and works. I attended and oversaw the modification to ensure the scope of works was clear and concise. The client and her daughter’s reaction and gratitude demonstrated from the works was overwhelmingly positive, which is the essence of our functions in home modifications – support peoples independence and dignity.

Of the four Indigo values (integrity, passion, creativity, together), which one do you express the most strongly during your workday, and why?

Together – the management team, therapists, home mods team and our team of quality contractors all contribute to ensure a client receives the best possible professional, efficient and timely service while complying with the Aged Care and Australian Standards.
